JOHN C. CHURCH

1935-2016

Our loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, John Charles Church passed away August 20, 2016 from heart disease at the age of 81.  He was born January 19, 1935 at Vallejo General Hospital, to Erna(Coffey) and John Charles Church Sr.  He graduated from Vallejo Senior High in 1954 where he was a Yell Leader and ran track.  During his summers John worked for the Forest Service in Northern CA.

John is survived by his wife of almost 50 years Nancy Church (Wright); son, Mark Church, daughter Tracie McMillan (Dave); granddaughter, Carli McMillan; sisters, Beatrice Belmont (Elmer), Peggy Milo (Frank), Donna Dey, Paula Sandusky (Vern); brother,Jim Church (Linda), and their families. He is also survived by Nancy’s sister, Phyllis Leachman, her brother, Jim Wright (Jane), and their families.  He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Church.

John worked with Bechtel Corporation for 33 years in Construction Management, giving him and his wife the opportunity to live and see many parts of the U.S.Together they moved back to Napa CA in 1991 where John retired in 1999, and continued to work as a consultant for a few more years. Living in the Napa Valley afforded John the opportunity to work in tasting rooms for Rutherford Hill Winery and Franciscan Estates, where he enjoyed meeting people, and discussing wine and restaurants.  When asked what his favorite wine was, John would say, “The one that’s in my glass now.”
