Feliciana “Fely” Tapay Bautista, 76, died peacefully on Sunday January 24, 2016. Born in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines on April 20, 1939, Fely received a Bachelor of Science & Commerce degree in Banking from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. She immigrated to San Francisco, California with her husband Conrado Enopia Bautista after Marcos declared Martial Law in 1970s. Once Fely and Conrado found permanent work - with Bank of America and with the Federal Reserve respectively- they were able to buy their first home in San Francisco and more importantly, were able petition their five children- Dulce Corazon(Martin), Marie Paz(Craig), Pablo Archimedes, Divina Gracia(Brian), and Conrado Jr- to join them in the US. Fely and Conrado raised their five children in San Francisco, providing them with more opportunities and a better life.

Fely embraced life with passion and creativity. She loved to dance, especially the cha-cha. She enjoyed playing the piano and would fill the living room with her version of the Beatle’s Yesterday. She cheered with gusto for her favorite sports teams, the SF Forty-Niners and the SF Giants, and appreciated the grace and fragile beauty of figure ice-skaters. She got involved with her community by becoming treasurer of Lipenos, a group of ex-pats from her city of Lipa. She crocheted and sewed clothes for the family as well as for her grandchildrens’ dolls. She sculpted vases & birds out of recycled paper and she created collages by cutting and pasting photographs with magazine ads. She was an avid gardener who would add chopped apples grown from the backyard into her lumpia.

Fely loved to cook especially Filipino food- dinuguan, kare-kare, sariwang lumpia, pancit, kaldereta, anything ginataan- all time-consuming and very labor intensive dishes. And her desserts were just as delicious- bibingka, kutchinta, leche flan, gulaman, champorado, bilo-bilo. With every morsel, you could taste her generosity and her love.

Fely is survived by her husband, Conrado, her five children, and her nine grandchildren. She has touched many people’s lives with her great sense of humor, her wonderful cooking, and her generous artistic spirit. She will be missed.

We love you. We will never forget you. You live on forever in us all.

A service to honor her life will be held on Friday January 29, 2016 beginning at 9AM at Tulocay Chapel, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa CA 94559. Memories and words of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.tulocaycemetery.org.
