Welcome to the memorial page for

Diane Slaughter

August 29, 1928 ~ August 3, 2015 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Diane Slaughter (1928 - 2015) passed away peacefully in Santa Barbara, CA on Monday, August 3.

Diane was born August 29, 1928 in Pasadena, CA. She met her husband, Donald Slaughter, while in nurse’s college at Stanford University.  They lived in Napa for over 40 years.  She loved raising her six children in the Valley.  When her children had grown, she worked for Justin-Siena High School for many years as a fundraiser. She loved to travel - to both exotic destinations like India, Greece, and Turkey, as well as Bodega Bay, and coastal California.

She also loved to give to others. She served as a Marion Visitor for many years, visiting the elderly in their homes and at retirement facilities. She was a volunteer nature docent for area schoolchildren, leading hikes and visiting classrooms. She helped feed the homeless as an early and longtime member of what is now called the Napa County Medical Society Alliance. She also served a term as foreperson of the Napa Valley Grand Jury, and was voted Citizen of the Month by KVON and the Napa Chamber of Commerce in 1981. She and Don were longtime boaters, and in 1985 Diane served for a time as the first female Commander of the Carquinez Power Squadron. She was an avid reader, and was a Napa Friends of the Library volunteer. She was an accomplished bridge player, as well as an expert puzzler and master of crosswords.  She enjoyed the company of the many friends she made during her decades as a Napan. She was a devoted dog lover for all of her life. Most of all, she loved to laugh and to be with her family.

Diane moved to Santa Barbara in 2009, and enjoyed living near the ocean.

She is survived by her children Joe, Ann, Mary, Peter, Sam, Sarah, and grandson Nicholas.

There will be a service at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Rd, Napa Ca (707 252 4727) on Monday, August 10, at 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Napa Library Foundation, the Napa Humane Society, or Napa County Medical Society Alliance.
