Roy McDaniel

Roy McDaniel, 72, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on the night of August 2, 2016.

Roy was born on May 30, 1944 in San Francisco to Roy Wright McDaniel, Sr. and Jennie (Bonifacini) McDaniel. Roy grew up in Napa and attended local schools, graduating from Napa High School, class of 1962.

Roy worked for Rough Rider Clothing until it closed; then he was employed with the Napa Sanitation District. His final employment was with the County of Napa, where he retired after 26 years. He cultivated many lifelong friends along the way.

Roy, also known as “Shorty,” (he stood 6’6” tall) was known for his gregarious laugh and as a “gentle giant.” His door was always open and he and his wife Susan welcomed everyone. Roy was an avid gardener and bowler. He loved traveling and camping with the family. He enjoyed antiques and furniture refinishing.

Roy was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife, Susan McDaniel. He leaves behind a brother, Michael McDaniel, and four children, Sherri Esparza, Stacy Gallasso (Scott), Aaron McDaniel (Regina) and Carrie McDaniel. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12, 11:00 am at Tulocay Cemetery Funeral Home, 411 Coombsville Road. Memories may be shared with the family on-line at ww.tulocaycemetery.org.
