Thomas Michael Kelly

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Thomas Michael Kelly, aged 76, on August 29, 2019 in St. Helena, CA.  Tommy was born in Harris, TX to Stan and June Kelly who, along with his older brother, Gene, preceded him in death.  At a very young age the Kelly family moved back to California where Tommy was raised and went to school.  Tommy was an avid sports fan from an early age and played on the Lowell High School football and baseball varsity teams.  After high school Tommy enlisted with the US Air Force and, somewhat following in his brother’s footsteps, attended foreign language school.  Subsequent to his enlistment with the Air Force Tommy was employed for many years with Tri Valley Growers, eventually becoming a supervisor with the company.

Tommy was interested in all things sports, especially teams of the S.F. Bay Area – the S.F. Giants and 49ers, Oakland Warriors were always on his radar ~ he could you facts & figures about who played in most years and even reminisced about teams that no longer exist, i.e. the S.F. Seals.  Tommy also loved history and was a font of knowledge when it came to WW’s 1 & II.  Another passion of his was movies –old movies, especially those from the 30’s and 40’s.  He knew the backgrounds of most actors and their histories, and would not hesitate to set you straight if you got any facts wrong.  Tommy was a ‘character’ and took great pride in his writing.  He took great pains to be eloquent yet humorous when writing even the shortest card to the longest of emails.

Tommy is survived by his niece, ‘Nicely’ Susan Principe, great nephews William Oliver (Shelsie) and Jason Principe (Deena), as well as his great great nephews, Liam and Jayden.  He also leaves behind his devoted girlfriend, Paula, and many longtime friends, including Marilyn (Mae), Dennis, Irene, and Judith.

Services at Golden Gate National Cemetery, 1300 Sneath Lane, San Bruno, CA will be rescheduled due to the corona virus. Tommy will be interred with his brother, Gene Kelly.
