Susan Elizabeth Merab

Susan Elizabeth Merab, aged 86, passed away on February 24, 2025, in Napa, CA. Born on June 4, 1938, in Southampton England. Susan spent her early years in England, where she completed her primary and secondary school education, followed by some further education. She dedicated over four decades to a successful career as a real estate investor and property manager.

She had an immense passion for travel, and a genuine interest in the people and places she went. She was strong, independent, and incredibly brave, traveling the world by herself starting in her 20’s, and those travels continued throughout the rest of her life. Her travels enriched her life and those around her. Susan’s vibrant personality and her nurturing nature will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Susan was an active individual with a passion for the outdoors, exercise, and community service. She was an avid gardener and swimmer, she loved to go for long walks and met so many friends through these hobbies. Throughout her life her love for animals was always evident, her home was never without her animal friends, over the years she raised chickens, ducks, guinea hen, rabbits, geese, goats, sheep, and so many cats and dogs. Her bird feeders were always filled and it gave her great joy to share her hen’s eggs, and the fruit and vegetables she grew with everyone she knew. She loved fostering kittens for the Napa Valley Humane Society and also walking shelter dogs with her grandson. She was also a committed volunteer at the American Cancer Society, and drove those in need to their appointments all over Northern California for many, many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alexis Merab, and her parents Violet Reid and Captain Richard Reid, and her sister Gillian King. She is survived by her son, Ilya Jason Merab, and grandson, Nicholas Alexander Merab. Susan’s life was marked by her spirited enthusiasm and her profound impact on her family and community. Her legacy will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched. When the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming, think of her, those were her favorite kind of days!

Her funeral and burial will be Friday, March 7th, 11:00 am at Yountville’s George C. Yount Pioneer Cemetery, and a celebration of her life will be held at her home Saturday March 8th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, any sort of contribution to the Napa Valley Humane Society is a wonderful way to honor her legacy.
