Napa, CA - Robert S. "Bob" Rose, a steadfast family man, proud Navy veteran, Mare Island worker, and lifelong Bay Area sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully at Queen of the Valley Medical Center on November 26, 2025-the day before Thanksgiving. He was 89.
Born on November 5, 1936, in San Rafael, California. On August 8, 1964, he married the love of his life, Leilani "Lani" Rose, in a union that spanned 59 joyful years until her passing in the spring of 2024. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Michelle in 1976.
Bob's career was a cornerstone of national loyalty, dedicating decades at the historic Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo. There, amid the hum of welders and the secrecy of the Cold War, he contributed to work that kept America's fleet submerged and supreme. Bob's work ethic mirrored his passions: cheering on the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers through every nail-biting game, as well as hunting and fishing with his friends.
Bob is survived by his loving daughter, Michelle N. Cromwell, and devoted son-in-law, Mark Cromwell, of Buffalo. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Leilani; sister Adrienne Sutton; and brother George Rose Jr. Bob's legacy endures in the family he nurtured and the community he quietly strengthened.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 10, 2025, at Tulocay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mare Island Historic Park Foundation or the American Heart Association are appreciated.
