Robert Wallace Miller, 96, died peacefully at home on Tuesday March 11, 2025 after returning from a brief hospitalization.
Born in Alameda, California on May 4, 1928, Bob moved to Napa CA at a young age where he graduated from Napa Union High School and was a 1949 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
Shortly after starting his career as a pharmacist at Miller's Drug Store, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a combat medic in the Korean War. Bob eventually received a commission and attained the rank of First Lieutenant.
After returning from Korea, he met Vernice Wachter and they married in 1956. They were married for 65 great years until her passing in 2021.
Bob spent his entire career as a pharmacist, first at Miller's Pharmacy in downtown Napa where he partnered with Art Fontana and later as one of the first pharmacists hired by Safeway when they began putting pharmacies in their stores. Bob was also active in the community and served on the Napa Planning Commission and as a president of the Napa Valley Cal Alumni Club. In retirement, he volunteered as a pharmacist at a local clinic.
Bob was an avid golfer and longtime member of Napa Valley Country Club. He traveled the world with Vernice and visited at least 80 countries (including North Korea as he would joke). He enjoyed digitizing and restoring photos he took on his travels and from his time in Korea. He was still learning new Photoshop skills at age 96.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Vernice and sister Joyce Odom. Survivors include son James (Linda) of San Diego CA, daughter Carol Bunton (Joe) of The Woodlands TX, and grandchildren Joshua of MD, Andrew of CA, and Scott, Nicole and Ryan of TX.
At Bob's request there will be no services and Inurnment was at Tulocay Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Providence Hospice Napa Valley or Queen of The Valley Hospital.
