Robert Ray Matheson
1951 - 2018
Robert Ray Matheson died June 3 at his Milton Road home overlooking the Napa River following a valiant two-year battle with cancer. He was 66.
Bob entered the world on Oct. 20, 1951, the second of five children born to Jim and Jean Matheson. He grew up on the family's Carneros ranch, where at an early age he acquired the exceptional farming and mechanical skills he would later rely upon to earn a living.
As a general mechanic for wineries, Bob could repair and operate almost anything. Friends and family could also count on him for help day or night.
Bob loved guitars, horses and hot rods, and he almost always had a dog at his side.
He was notorious for waiting until the last minute to shop for Christmas presents. And yet he always managed to get the coolest gifts, especially for his many nieces and nephews.
Bob's death is being mourned most of all by Coni Briese, his partner of 35 years. They shared many great moments together.
Bobby, as he was affectionally known by the Briese family, was a father figure to Coni's three sons. He taught Marrick Moore how to drive and Damon Moore how to play guitar. He and Gary Moore enjoyed hunting deer.
Bob is survived by his four siblings: Margie Morin, Charlie Matheson, Ben Matheson and Janice Owens. Other survivors include Cindy Bell, Ronnie Briese, Josephine Metz and Sherry Briese.
The family also would like to recognize Jeff La Londe, Bob's best friend, and Jeff's children Wes and Kayla.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. June 30 at the Carneros ranch. For information contact Margie Morin at 707-495-4039.
