Nadine Wynne Sittig, passed away peacefully at age 90 on August 8, 2023 in her home in Calistoga. She was born in Berkeley, California on May 19, 1933 to Orville Wilbur (Jack) Johnson and Violet Cleone Johnson. She grew up in Napa, California where as a young woman she was deeply involved with the Masonic organization The Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Napa Valley Community College where she graduated with an associates degree in Business and Administration in the year 1953.
Nadine met Raymond Eugene Sittig on a blind date on August 6, 1953 at the dance hall in Rio Nido. A year and two days later they were married on August 8, 1954 at the First Presbyterian church in Napa. They had three daughters, Diane Carolyn Sittig age 68, Sharon Lynn Sittig who passed away January 9, 2010 at age 54, and Karen Susan Sittig age 57. They had 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Nadine opened Le Artisan, a gift shop at The Calistoga Depot on April 1, 1981. She happily ran the shop for 25 years with the help of her daughter Karen. She was a lover of nature, hand sewing, knitting, zig-saw puzzles, reading, and being in her garden. She was nurturing, gentle, and kind. She once said, "every morning I look for something beautiful to start my day." That is how her family remembers her, as a gentle and loving woman who saw the beauty in the simplest things.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 12:00pm at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa, California.
