It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Ming Wong, a lifelong Napa resident. He was born on June 11, 1932, in Stockton, CA, came to Napa when he was five years old, and passed away peacefully in his home on December 8, 2022, after a valiant nine years on dialysis.
Ming grew up in his family's butcher shop, Daily Market, on the corner of Main and Caymus Streets and attended Lincoln elementary school. Upon graduation from Napa High, he honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, and came home to work with his brothers on their poultry ranch. He met and married the love of his life, Shirley, in 1957. Together they shared a life of love, hard work, trailering in their Airstream with their beloved dogs, and fishing at Eagle Lake and Frenchman Reservoir. They also shared their love of gardening, cooking, and food with their extended network of family and friends. Ming especially loved going with nephew, Steve, to dive for abalone on the Mendocino coast and dig for clams at Lawson's Landing along the Sonoma coast.
Ming is survived by his daughter, Susie, and a large network of extended family and friends. He was pre-deceased by his wife Shirley in 2016. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. His sense of humor and caring nature will be remembered by all who loved him.
Special thanks go to all the Kaiser physicians and staff that cared for him as well as DaVita Napa Dialysis for their stellar care.
Services and burial will be on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Tulocay Cemetery. Viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m., service with burial to follow at 12:00 p.m. Please join us in wishing him great fishing with Mom under sunny skies and calm winds, or having a cool drink with his best friend Frank!
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ming's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Family House Mission Bay Inc.
