Maxine (Mickey) Phillips passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New York on November 3, 1942, Mickey moved to California as a child and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1961. It was there she met the love of her life, Gordon Phillips, on a cruise night at Mel’s Drive-In — a city girl meeting her country boy. They married and shared 63 wonderful years together, raising two daughters, Terri and Cheryl.
Mickey’s career began as a bank teller, later becoming a devoted stay-at-home mom before joining her husband in building a successful family business operating multiple service stations across Napa and Solano Counties. She was active in her community through Soroptimist International of Napa and also worked for Weight Watchers in the 1990s. She volunteered as a Room Mom at her daughters’ schools and later as a Sunday school teacher, sharing her faith with her grandchildren and others.
Mickey will be remembered for her strong will, impeccable style, and big heart. Her home was always spotless, her hair and makeup always perfect, and her spirit — lively, loving, and real. Proud of her Jewish heritage and devoted to her faith, she was a member of Foothill Christian Church, lovingly regarded as the ‘Mother’ of the congregation and a devoted prayer warrior. Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude (Goldie) and Benjamin Kaplan; and her siblings Lois ‘Tootsie’ Goulet, Aileen Ross, Iris Kaplan, and Harvey Kaplan.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Gordon Phillips; daughters Terri Vineyard (Kent “Sam”) and Cheryl Payan (Robert); grandchildren Jedediah Vineyard (Brandy), Robbie Payan (Libby), Steven Payan (Teagan), Katie Owen (Reid) and Travis Payan (Marielle); and great-grandchildren Olivia, Jaxson, Christy, Madelyn, and Remi. A private graveside service will be held for family, with a Celebration of Life announced at a later date.
