Mary Jo Savage Obituary

Mary Jo Savage passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 19, 1949, in Oakland, California, and grew up in Walnut Creek. Jo attended Holy Names High School in Oakland and went on to graduate from Dominican College of San Rafael.

In 1971, Jo married her beloved husband, John Savage. Together they settled in Napa, where they raised their seven children: Shannon (Paul), Megan (Jason), Maureen, Katie (Bill), Coleen (Steven), Patrick, and Aileen. Family was the center of Jo’s life, and she was a devoted grandmother to ten grandchildren — Brienne, Cassidy, Anthony, Nicholas, Connor, Sophia, Claire, Riley, Luca, and Addie — and a proud great-grandmother to Charlotte. Her family was truly her greatest joy.

Jo dedicated much of her professional life to serving others. She worked at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church for nearly 30 years, where she formed many lifelong friendships. An entrepreneur at heart, she owned and operated the restaurant Suppertime and spent many years as a trusted bookkeeper, helping countless individuals with their finances and tax preparation. Her most recent position was managing the books at the Uptown Theater.

Jo’s volunteer spirit was unmatched. At St. Apollinaris, she generously gave her time and energy to countless ministries and events. She was always the last to leave, ensuring everything was cleaned and in order: a quiet but powerful reflection of her dedication and care for her community.

She had a deep love of history and reading, but above all, Jo treasured her family. In her own words:

“Family is the greatest gift of all. Family with all its ups & downs, at least for me, the one gift you can always count on in the good times and the bad. To love and to be loved is a gift you learn to value the longer you have it. So I cannot say what gift I wish someone would give me but rather focus on the ones I have received.”

These words reflect the life she lived: one marked by strength, humility, faith, and devotion. Jo was a matriarch who led by example and instilled in her children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchild the values of love, loyalty, perseverance, and service.

Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Art and Dorothy Mohr; her husband, John Savage; her son, Patrick Savage; her granddaughter, Addie Dominici; and her sister and brother-in-law, Michele and Tom Savage. She is survived by her sisters, Pat Easley and Denise Mace.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Patrick Savage Memorial Corporation Fund: https://www.venmo.com/u/YLA_of_Napa
