Marie Peters Obituary

Marie Gloria Peters

1936 - 2021

Marie Peters passed away at the age of 84 peacefully at home on January 13, 2021.

Born as Marie Gloria Candieas in Eureka, Humboldt, California, daughter of Mateus Silveira Candieas and Gloria Marie Cardoza.

Marie was raised in Eureka by her parents until their divorce. Her mother Gloria soon remarried, and her family included stepfather Donald Briggs and half-brother Floyd Arden Briggs. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1956 and soon after married her high school sweetheart, Ernest W. Cole. Together they had two daughters followed by twin sons. Marie embraced motherhood and loved raising her children as well as being a homemaker.  She loved gardening, sewing clothes for the family, and was an excellent cook.  She always took pride in her home and insisted everything to be kept clean and tidy. She loved decorating her home at the holidays and hosting large family gatherings. Marie has provided her children and grandchildren with wonderful memories that will be cherished.

In 1964, her family moved to the town of Napa, California where she would remain for most of her life. Later in 1975 Marie and Ernest would start a furniture business together known as “The Woodmill” Bringing a much-needed unfinished furniture store to Napa. Marie took on both roles as bookkeeper and salesperson. A few short years later she would sell the business as part of a divorce, staying on to assist the new owners during the transition.  She eventually stayed on as an employee and enjoyed working with the new owners until 1984 when she was hired as the credit manager for Peters Rentals. It was there she met Jack Peters, after several years they eventually fell in love and were married in 1993.

After retirement, Marie enjoyed taking care of two of her grandchildren, Devan and Derrick during their early years. Marie and Jack enjoyed traveling in their airstream for many years visiting family and site-seeing throughout the United States. They took their first cruise to Hawaii and later in 2004 cruised to Alaska with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.  Marie is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda Ferrario (Gino) and Debra Ervin (Rick); her loving twin sons; Aaron Cole (Kirsten) and Bryon Cole; grandchildren, Rina, David, Derrick, Devan, Payton, Alex, Maya and Ella; great grandchildren, Liliana, and Westley. She is also survived by her half brothers, Les Candieas (Diantha) and John Candieas.

Mom, we will all deeply miss you. Your love will carry on through us all. Rest in Peace.

For the next step on her journey, Marie will be greeted by her husband Jack Peters, her mother and stepfather, Gloria and Donald Briggs, her father Mateus Candieas, stepbrother, Floyd Arden Briggs, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maye and Gerald Cole.
