Manuel Gomes Obituary

Manuel DaLomba Gomes, a resident of Napa Valley, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 17, 2025, at his residence after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was on born on September 17, 1955, to Daniel Manuel Gomes and Dominga Dalomba Gomes on the Island of Brava, located in the Cape Verde Islands. He migrated to US from Cape Verde in 1965 when he was only 9 years old to join his Father Daniel M Gomes who had re-married Eva Rodrigues Gomes in 1961.  

Manuel attended Robert Louis Stevenson and St. Helena High school where he graduated in 1973. He attended Napa Valley College in pursuit of his dream to study viticulture which was his passion. In 1976 he started his own farming business to help vineyard owners with their harvest and farming, this became his lifelong career.

He met his first wife Eliva Pena and got married in 1977 and were married for 21 years. They started a family and had 3 children. Manuel Jr., Isidoro and Danielle. Manuel then re-married in 1996 to Rosa Andrade Gomes. They were married for 27 years. Manuel lived life to the fullest. He was a very happy, reliable and a trustworthy person. 

He was a big sports fan who loved baseball, football and basketball. He could listen to multiple games simultaneously and have a serious conversation with you. His favorite teams were 49ers, Giants, Raiders and Warriors. He loved family, music, and gatherings with friends. He thoroughly enjoyed the mountains and taking long drives. If you ever met Manuel, he would invite you to his house the same evening and became your best friend. He had a love for the Cape Verde Islands and would visit 1-2 times annually. His wish was to retire and move there permanently. 

Manuel was an active member of the Cape Verdean West Association (CVWA) for nearly 45 years where he served as President on many occasions as well as other positions, to provide education to the next generation to make sure they understood their roots and keep the culture alive through family, food and music. He is predeceased by his grandmothers Adelina Diaz Gomes and Maria Julia Dalomba, grandfathers Manuel Caela Gomes and "Paiai" DaLomba, his parents Daniel Manuel Gomes and Dominga DaLomba Gomes. He is survived by 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 18 brothers and sisters, 71 nieces and nephews, 80 great nieces and nephews, 4 great-great nieces and nephews.

He really was a joy to be around and loved everyone.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Apollinaris Church, 1700 Lassen Street, Napa, Calif. 94558. Immediately following the services there will be a reception for family and friends to reflect and share your personal stories regarding our beloved Manuel.
