Mabel Elmina Smith 91 of Napa, California passed away suddenly on June 1, 2025, from complications of a stroke.
She was born Mabel Elmina Wike on June 20, 1933, to Keith Sinclair Wike and Bessie Eva Wike in Delaplaine, Arkansas, few years after she was born, they moved to Alabama where she grew up.
Mabel came to California to visit her boyfriend Billy J. Smith and his family in 1950.
Mabel and Bill were married January 18, 1952, they had 3 children Deborah Alice; Billy Joe Jr.; and Denise Ann. Mabel and Bill celebrated 70 years together before his passing in September of 2022.
While being married, working, and raising her family, Mabel received her GED from Napa Valley College and then went on to Solano College where she graduated with her LVN degree.
Mabel worked at Queen of the Valley Hospital for 34 years, though she worked in many departments while there The Emergency Room became her home until her retirement.
Mabel enjoyed spending her time with her family and friends, sharing her stories of her life. Her morning walks, traveling, listening to music, reading, and playing her electronic solitaire game were some of her favorite past times.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband Billy J. Smith; her daughter Deborah Alice Johnstone; her son-in-law Wayne LeRoy Johnstone; brother Williard Wike; brother Otis Wike
Mabel was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her sister Thelma Alice (John); her son Billy Smith Jr. (Jeanie); her daughter Denise Jorgenson (Brandt); her 5 grandchildren Robert Smith (Lisa); Kristal Broyles (Jeff); Justin Smith (Kyt); Rebekah Jorgenson; and Amanda Jorgenson, and her 4 great-grandchildren Austin Broyles; Ashlyn Broyles, Devin Smith and Oliver Smith.
Services for Mabel will be held in The Chapel at the Tulocay Funeral Home 411 Coombsville Road in Napa, Ca on Friday July 25, 2025, at 11:00 am. A Reception will follow.
