In the early hours of Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Lorraine Ording, beloved and wonderful
wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, great-grandmother, and friend, reached the end
of her life peacefully while she slept.
Lorraine was born Helen Lorraine Swain in Lansing, MI, to parents Henry and Gladys
Swain. After marriage to Joseph Ording, they moved to Saginaw, where they raised five
unruly and marginally grateful children. Once done with that chore, Lorraine set her
sights on the business world and built a career as an executive with the Scholastic
Publishing Company. Lorraine’s career took her and Joe west to California, and once
their children discovered their whereabouts, they clustered about Joe and Lorraine
again. Lorraine had many accomplishments in addition to her parenting and business
skills, including a successful stint displaying her paintings at regional art fairs.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry, and her sister Echo. She is
survived and will be greatly missed by Joe her husband of 71 years; adult children
Anne, Amy, Joe, Tom, and John; daughters-in-law Beth and Kelly; brother Wallie; and
numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, and friends too
many to name.
