Lorraine Hazen passed away in the early morning of July 12, 2023. Lorraine was born in San Francisco California November 2, 1933. She was born to George and Lilian Winter. Lorraine was one of three children and often talked fondly of her days growing up in San Francisco. One of her childhood stories stood out above all in 1937 she was hidden in her father's jacket to get to be on the Golden Gate Bridge opening. She told this amazing tale time and time again.
Lorraine was known as a young woman that was more ambitious and energetic than anyone her best friend Josie had ever known, "she never sat down!" She used that energy for good throughout her life and in her many different jobs and passions, especially history and explicitly family history. She researched her family's origins in California and shared her Berryessa family history with historians, her family, and anyone that interested in the pictures she displayed in her home. In 1982 Lorraine and her husband Barry moved to Napa from Pacifica and built an amazing home for many generations of friends and family to gather.
Lorraine is preceded in death by many family members, but most notable- Barry Hazen, her adoring husband. Shortly after her passing her youngest son Michael Hazen also sadly passed. They are survived by Richard Hazen, Raymond Hazen, Holly Bugaj, Carey Hazen. The extensive number of kids Lorraine had through marriages, love, and friendships are too vast to count. "Nana" Lorraine had so many grandchildren and great grandchildren that brought friends that became family, she carried that legacy of love through to her end of days.
Lorraine kept her home the place for a cup of coffee or a small treat even as Lorraine couldn't prepare the events she adamantly insisted to host. The joy that Lorraine had created in her home continued through the partnership with Joni Hazen which kept Lorraine bustling in her dancing joys to singers like Johnny Mathis, painting, walks and many many conversations - just some of her other greatest joys. Thank you Joni.
She will always be remembered as Nana Lorraine.
