Larry McCart Obituary

Passed away on July 8, 2020 at Kaiser hospital in Vallejo, California at the age of 82.  Larry was born on September 15, 1937 in Vallejo, California to Ira and Herrietta McCart and lived in Vallejo until 1947 when he moved to Napa with his family. He graduated from Napa High in 1955. Wanda and Larry married on April 24, 1971.

He was predeceased by his parents Ira and Herrietta McCart, his two brothers Ira J and Richard (Dick), and his sister Phyllis Hubbard.

Those who knew Larry knew he was very proud of his time serving in Army National Guard for 12 years.

In April 1971 he moved into his family’s home on Third Ave where Larry and Wanda raised their four children together: Deborah (David) Afana of Fremont, California, Linda Blew of Great Falls, Montana, John (Diane) Greene of Shingletown, California, and Ted Valencia (Darlene) of Napa, California. They have been blessed with 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. There have been many years of constantly building and improving on their home, always a new project needing to be taken care of.  When Larry built something, it was meant to last forever.  He had a wood working shop that created many beautiful pieces of furniture for their home.

Larry worked for Kaiser Steel / Napa Pipe Corp. for 45 years and retired in 2001 as Superintendent of Maintenance. Larry was a member of Napa Elks, and of Sirs 149. He spent many years camping and traveling with family and friends.  He always knew the best spots to camp. He was an active member of Diablo ramblers RV club for the past 20 years, enjoying many adventures in their 5th wheel trailer before giving it up in January.

Larry was one of the longest standing members of First Baptist / CrossWalk Community Church joining in April 17, 1949. He was very committed to his church and served from the time he was young until his passing following in his father’s footsteps. We don’t believe there is a committee at the church that Larry didn’t serve on at one time of another. He always had great stories to tell of growing up in the church and some of the many shenanigans that went on in youth group. When his kids were in youth group, he hosted them many times at his home as well.

Larry will be buried in a private ceremony at Tulocay Cemetery on the 24th day of July, 2020.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to CrossWalk Community Church.
