Luis Zavala

August 9, 1935 – January 7, 2024

Napa- Luis Zavala, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world on January 7, 2024, at the age of 88 in Napa, CA.  He was born on August 9, 1935, in San Diego de Alcala, Guanajuato, Mexico, a small pueblo where he grew up with his parents Buenaventura and Maria, and his five siblings.  In his teens, Luis helped on the family farm raising livestock with his father.  After Luis finished high school his journey to the United States (US) began in 1955 at the age of 20 to find a better life.  His journey included trips back to Mexico, some voluntary and others involuntary.  On one such trip in 1960, he courted and asked to marry Obdulia Huijon, a childhood friend.  A year later in January 1961, Luis and Obdulia were married.  Luis journey to the US continued to Sebastopol, CA, where he eventually established residency working for an apple farm in 1965. The young family finally settled in Napa in 1969 where Luis and Obdulia raised six sons.  Luis was a loving husband, a wonderful father, a humble man with a great sense of humor, and an avid sports fan.  Luis made many  friends and left many smiles along his journey.

                He was preceded in death by Obdulia; his son, Ricardo; his parents; his siblings: Maria, Antonia (at birth), Jesus and Francisco.  He is survived by his sons: Jose Luis (Eva), Roberto (Mary Ann), Fernando (Audrey), Raul Rafael (Lori), Miguel Ventura; his second sister, Antonia; and many grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

                Services will be on January 22, 2024, with public viewing at 1:00 p.m.; at Tulocay Funeral Home, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, CA, 94559.  On January 23, 2024, Mass Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 960 Caymus Street, Napa, CA, 94559.  Burial and Reception following Mass services at Tulocay Funeral Home.
