Karen (Kay) Byassee
1943 - 2021
Karen (Kay) Byassee passed away peacefully at home on Sunday Feb 7th in Napa, CA at the age of 77.
Kay was born on May 2, 1943 in Long Beach, CA to Margaret and Virgil Chapman. She graduated from Napa High School in 1961 and moved to San Francisco the next day. After returning to Napa, she married her pen pal Jerry Byassee, a native of Kentucky serving in the US Navy.
Kay drove a school bus for many years before retiring from Napa State Hospital as a Program Secretary. She was musically inclined, playing the flute in the NHS marching band. She enjoyed knitting, reading, watching her kids in sports, camping, shopping, and Taco Bell. She was an active and dedicated member of First Christian Church and volunteered when called upon.
Kay is survived by: Her husband: Jerry, Children: Angela Byassee, Laurie (Bruce) Frazier, and Jill (Frank) Peña, Siblings: Virg Chapman and Paul Chapman, Grandkids: Ryan, Samantha, Elijah, Zachary, Mollie, Noah, Cheyne, Jonah, Rachel, Jared, and McKenna, Great-Grandkids: Kael, Aidyn, Joseph, Teagan, and Torin.
Preceded in death by: Her parents Virgil and Margaret, Sister Christine Gunderson, and Son Joseph Byassee.
A private graveside service was held with her brother, Virgil Chapman, officiating.
