June S. Slack was born Jung Suk Uoo, in Gongju Korea, May 22, 1928.
She became a trained nurse and met Army medic Virgil Slack during the Korean War. After the war, Virgil returned to Korea and he and June married. They came to the United States in 1955, to raise their family in Napa. They raised their three children and June continued her nursing career at Vallejo General Hospital. She also became a businesswoman, owning a bookstore, clothing store, and several rental properties. June was a dedicated Christian and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was well known as a health enthusiast. She practiced Tai Chi for over 40 years, walked miles each day, and prepared nutritious organic foods for her family. On September 12, 2023, June passed away peacefully in her sleep.
She is survived by her three children: Sandra Nerini, Paul Slack (Susie), and Trudy Brock (Roland Hackenberg); her three grandchildren: Christine Brock (Michael Rose), Erin Brock (Joel Fennie), and DeVaughn Slack; as well as her great-grandchild: Casper Rose. June is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family.
A small family service was held at Tulocay Cemetery on September 22, 2023.
