Julia Schmidt Obituary

Julia Paige Schmidt
(aka Julia Paige Marie Antoinette Schmidt, Jules, JB, J, Jay Bird, Ju-ju)

Julia Paige Schmidt was a radiant, one-of-a-kind soul—so full of sweetness and spark that many lovingly called her a unicorn.

She is survived by her devoted family: her mom, Sarah Walz; her papa, Jeff Schmidt; her sister and best friend, Zoe Schmidt; grandparents Judy & Jeff Kennedy (“Grammy & Pea-paw”) and Ruth & Fred Walz (“Nana & Grampie”); Auntie Em (Emily Walz); Uncle Mike Nova; and Aunt Drina Boban.

Julia’s journey began at the Napa Infant Program, where, with love and determination, she took her first steps and found her mobility. She later thrived at Stonebridge School, forging deep bonds with her teachers and classmates, and delighting in school hikes with her Grammy. Though school was sometimes a challenge, Julia faced it with courage and grace. During these years, she discovered her love of drawing, music, and the stage, along with favorite outings to the zoo, museums, the beach, and birdwatching adventures.

As she grew, Julia’s middle school years brought new joys and milestones: crushes on boys, a fascination with the movie Grease, and her transition to Silverado Middle School, where she formed a special connection with teacher Terra. Her sister Zoe was her constant champion and helper—an extraordinary sister in every sense.

Julia loved being in the heart of her home, especially the kitchen. She delighted in cooking alongside her mom, chopping vegetables, shredding potatoes for latkes, and popping popcorn. When music filled the house, Julia could be found singing, dancing, and joyfully circling the table. At the family cabin in Shasta, she relished looking for wildlife, splashing in the creek, and working on projects with her Papa. Always eager to help, Julia brought her playful spirit and bright energy to every family endeavor.

Though Julia’s life was cut short by epilepsy, her light and love remain eternal. She will be remembered for her laughter, her creativity, her curiosity, and the way she filled every space with joy. Her family—Sarah, Jeff, Zoe, and all who loved her—will carry her in their hearts as they forge a new path forward, with Julia’s spirit guiding them every step of the way.

Julia’s story is one of love, courage, and wonder, and her memory will forever inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.
