Judith M. (Hall) Crichton

Judith M. Crichton (née Hall), age 78, of Rutherford, California, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025. Judith, the third eldest and first daughter of seven children, was born on March 5, 1947, in Libby, Montana and spent most of her youth in Washington State.

In the late 1960s, while studying Archeology at the University of Washington in Seattle, she met her soul mate and life partner, Richard Crichton. In their first decade of marriage they lived in New York and London where she taught and created educational materials. 

In the early eighties they returned to the west coast, and, in 1983, she and her husband created CRICHTON HALL VINEYARD in Napa Valley. For twenty years they crafted artisan wines which were sold in Europe, Canada, Japan, and the U.S.

Judith was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard Crichton, mother Mariam (Fuller) Hall, father Howard Hall, brothers Michael J. Hall and John Hall, and sister Marianne Kennedy. She leaves her brothers Patrick Hall (Evie) and Jeff Hall (Linda), sister Jill Gallagher (Joe), as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Jud.

Teacher, traveler, winemaker, vineyard owner, art lover, poetry reader, tender-hearted soul. Judith took a global view of life. She wished for her family to experience the beauty, wonder, and diversity of this great big world and took her sisters, nieces, and nephews overseas. She will be remembered for her enduring love, deep commitment to family, and the quiet strength with which she faced life’s joys and challenges.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the AmeriCorps or ProLiteracy in support of adult literacy and education. 

A private celebration of life will be held near Seattle, Washington at a later date.
