John Lord, 76, was born in Adams, Massachusetts, on September 13, 1948. In 1950, his family moved to Vallejo, where he spent his formative years before settling into his dream home in Napa, which he and his beloved wife, Myra, built together. He passed away peacefully at home and in her arms on March 18, 2025.
He is survived by his devoted wife, best friend, and soulmate, Myra; his children: Jean, Janet (Pete), Marlene (Jason), Jeff (Donna), and Jennifer (Andrew); as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his beloved mother, Lourdes Kenney, age 102; his two brothers, Tony (Sandy) and Edward; his four sisters, Mercy, Evelyn, Lillian, and Suzette; his sister-in-law, Donna; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones around the world. John was preceded in death by his father, Edward Joseph Lord, and his brother-in-law, Kent McNatt.
John and Myra, in their early years, were avid square dancers in Napa. Every Thursday evening, they spent time dancing and quickly made lifelong friends, including their adoptive and surviving parents, Bob and Wanda.
A born entrepreneur, John purchased his first home at just 18 years old, igniting a lifelong passion for real estate as a broker and founder of Lord Real Estate. He dedicated his career to helping others, guiding and supporting countless people, and turning every challenge into an opportunity. He had an unmatched ability to navigate complex financial situations, and his keen insight and generosity transformed everything he touched into success.
John’s dedication to serving others extended beyond his profession. He was deeply committed to empowering those around him, always encouraging people to become the best versions of themselves. He served as the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Coordinator in Solano County before being asked to lead the program in Napa County. His knowledge, wisdom, and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on every community he served.
John had a deep love for sports, particularly soccer and bocce ball. He was known by Vallejo youth as a Vallejo PAL soccer coach, even traveling to Germany with his team as the coach of the Vallejo Rowdies. He formed lifelong friendships playing in the adult soccer league, the Red Devils, and coached for his alma mater, Vallejo High School, shaping the lives of countless young athletes.
Beyond his professional and coaching career, John had a deep love for travel, and he and Myra explored the world, creating unforgettable memories along the way. He was dedicated to showing the world to his children through a lifelong love of camping, family travel, and photography. Through his camera lens, he documented his life—an adventurous spirit that became infectious to both his children and grandchildren, instilling in them a love for exploration and discovery. For over 20 years, he and Myra were part of the Adventure Hikers, exploring trails both locally and across the country with a close-knit group that became their second family.
If you welcomed John into your life, you gained a natural father, mentor, and friend. If you sought his advice, he would guide you toward success—so long as you were willing to put in the work. His ability to read a situation, solve problems, and inspire those around him was unparalleled.
John and Myra made sure their home was always open, not only to friends and loved ones but also to foreign exchange and music students from around the world. Their home was a safe haven for anyone who needed a place to live or an opportunity to enrich their lives. They created a place of comfort for many, providing warmth and guidance to those who needed it. By welcoming these students into their family, they hoped to broaden their own children's experiences and perspectives while fostering a strong sense of community.
Though he had many more years of adventures planned, John lived a full, meaningful life. His wisdom, generosity, and spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched. He was truly one of a kind.
