John Peter Dunk died of heart failure on February 24, 2021 at the age of 68. He was born in
Lynwood, California on September 14, 1952 to Robert Harry Dunk and Allyn Peters Dunk; he
went by his middle name, Peter. Although he never graduated from college, Peter was an avid
reader and listener. He was a loquacious story teller, new age philosopher, and critic of popular
culture. Aside from jobs at Tower Records, as a taxi driver, and as a school bus driver, Peter
spent most of his life as a skilled stained glass artisan, working for many different stained glass
shops. He also did freelance work. Peter married once and later divorced, but they remained
friends. Another of his friends said “Peter was a sensitive, caring, and good-humored man. He
made people laugh and was always there for his friends when they needed him.” He lost most
of his possessions, including his stained glass and associated tools, in the Valley fire of 2015.
Unfortunately, he moved to Paradise, CA, where the Camp fire of 2018 destroyed most of his
possessions once again. Peter moved around a lot, mostly in Northern California, and he loved
going on road trips. He hitchhiked when younger and returned the favor by picking up
hitchhikers when he was the driver. He told many interesting stories. Peter is survived by his
sister, Carol Reeves, his only living next-of-kin.
