Joe F. Hammond

Age 94

Passed peacefully in Napa on October 8, 2024. 

Born May 13, 1930 in Dunning, Nebraska. Joe and his family moved to Napa in 1937 where he proudly lived the rest of his life. 

Growing up on the Hammond farm, Joe developed his hard work ethic which he maintained throughout his life. 

He served in the Army 1951-1953 and worked at Mare Island for over 30 years. 

Joe loved his family, classic cars, country music and dancing. 

He met the love of his life and eternal dance partner Bette Murphy in 1980.  After his retirement, Joe and Bette enjoyed many travels in their motor home. They shared a wonderful life until her death in 2019. 

A long life well lived, Papa Joe will be sorely missed by his family and friends. 

Survived by his brothers Jeffrey and George Hammond, Bette’s children Terry Rousseve (Norm),

John Murphy (Jean), Dennis Murphy (Coretta), Susan Godden (John), 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Linda Bates and son Mike. 

Predeceased by Bette Murphy, Natasha Sprague, his parents George and Ina Hammond, step mother Bertha Hammond. 

Brother and sisters Dorothy, Jack and Marynell. 

Deceased spouse Wecoma (Connie) and stepson Lonnie Bates.
