Janice Luce Obituary

Janice Marie Luce
September 1,1935

Janice was born in Napa California to loving parents Albert and Adeline Martini.
Even though she was an only child Janice grew up with many cousins and was
close to all of them. Frequently going to Sonoma to visit her Nonna’s farm or
going to her family’s market on 3 rd street The Italian Grocery. She attended St
John’s Catholic School where she made lifelong friends and was antagonized by a
few nuns. Then off to Napa Senior High class of 1953. She was also a graduate
from the local junior college where she held the office of ASB secretary and
attended the IBM program in San Francisco. Although they had a chance
encounter when Janice was 15 carrying a cake to school where she caught Jim’s
eye, she officially met her future husband at Kaiser Steel where she worked as
head of payroll, and he was the lead man in the pipe mill. She thought she was
going out with one man when James Luce showed up at her door and after some
coercing by her mother, she went out with him, and the rest is history. They were
married on June 24 th , 1956, and welcomed their first child Timothy in 1957 and
their second child a daughter Michelle in 1959. Janice was the embodiment of a
fifties housewife where she cooked, cleaned, and took care of the children and
the household. Making sure her kid’s outfits were all laid out matching for them
the night before school. While her husband was building a career as a firefighter,
they also started a construction company where she was a jack of all trades.
Janice was heavily involved in the wives of the Napa Firefighters organizations and
helped at Browns Valley School where her children attended. You could always
catch her dressed perfectly in a skirt and nylons and shocked us all when in the
late 90’s she became a modern woman and started wearing pants. In 1978 Jim
and Janice welcomed their first grandchild Angela Luce. She was the apple of her
grandmother’s eye and when Angie faced health problems Janice was there by
her side every second that she could be, and although Angie lived with her
mother in various places the bond remained strong until Angie’s passing at the
early age of 40 in 2018. Her son Timothy married the love of his life Rose Davis in
1983 and soon after they welcomed a daughter Nikki and like Janice, she was a
Labor Day baby Janice anxiously looked on at her new granddaughter as the nurse
aggressively swirled her hair into a curl. A few years later a grandson named after

His grandfather James Luce in 1986 “.Jimmer” bounced into the world. The
grandson they always wanted. As her grandchildren grew, she remained active in
their lives, often taking them with her on shopping trips or just to hang out
around the house watching soap operas and cooking shows. After her husband’s
retirement they traveled with motorhome and car clubs and made close friends
with people who shared similar interests. Janice was also a longtime volunteer for
the Skip Long Memorial car show. Her favorite outing though was to the local
casinos where she could sit for hours at any machine often taking home more
than she went with and enjoyed all the free goodies that she would get for being
a frequent gambler. In 2004 her granddaughter Nikki was married to Michael Feil
where he was welcomed and loved by both Jim and Janice. Then in 2010 Jimmie
Luce married Jenifer Beahm in a May ceremony where it was learned soon after
they were expecting their first child Braxton Lee was Born January of 2011, he
was then followed by a brother Bentley Mason in 2014 and sister Kylie Mae in
2019. Janice was delighted to have great grandchildren and was excited to have
them visit where they would be well fed with a spread of whatever they wanted
and they would jump on the furniture, play the piano and tell Janice stories.
Janice is survived by her loving husband of almost 68 years James Luce. Son
Timothy (Rose) Luce Daughter Michelle Luce. Granddaughter Nikki (Mike) Feil and
Grandson Jimmie (Jenifer) Luce, Great Grandsons Braxton and Bentley and Great
Granddaughter Kylie. She is proceeded in death by her parents Albert and
Adeline, Granddaughter Angela Luce as well as many cousins and friends. Janice
will be greatly missed and leave a hole in the fabric of our family. Her Heart was
strong until wasn’t.
