Janice Bianchi Obituary

Janice Corrine Bianchi passed away on May 10, 2025 at the age of 94. She was born on August 30, 1930 in Chico, California to Robert and Nora Ash. Early in her childhood she lived in Chico and Petaluma until moving to Napa. When her mother, Nora remarried Janice's last name was change to Atkeson. She attended Napa schools and graduated from Napa High School in 1948. On May 8, 1949 she gave her heart and her hand to her high school sweetheart and neighbor Edward William Bianchi. They were married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Napa in an afternoon ceremony that Father Robert Shepston officiated and called it "the loveliest of the season's nuptial events". The 400 guests who witnessed the vow exchange gathered later in the day at the Napa Valley Country Club for a beautiful reception which Janice always remembered as one of the happiest days of their lives. They were members of St. John's Church for many years then later made St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Napa their home parish sharing their faith with their children. Janice and Edward enjoyed travel especially to State and National parks and spending time at their Lake County cabin. Janice even accompanied Edward on hunting trips and knew how to fire a rifle. They raised 4 children together Mary, Rose, Edward Jr. and Sara. Janice enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her husband and children. She enjoyed cooking and always baked the prettiest birthday cakes and oatmeal cookies. She later attended Napa College and was employed at The Veterans Home in Yountville, California. She worked first in medical records, then as the medical staff secretary in the Nelson M. Holderman Hospital on the grounds of The Veterans Home. Janice also worked as the secretary to the administrator. She enjoyed the many years she worked there and could be found at lunch time walking the beautiful grounds or having a picnic with her grandchildren. Janice also managed a rental business which kept her busy as well. She enjoyed travel in the United States and Europe, gardening, and especially dancing. She always looked forward to the Napa City Nights Summer Concerts where she could be found dancing with her family and friends and encouraging others to get up and dance. This along with her love of walking kept her young and in great shape. She also enjoyed watching movies and listening to all types of music. Janice had 4 grandchildren Ryan, Edward, Amber and Mia. They loved her very much and referred to her as Nona. They remember fondly her entertaining holiday gatherings, Easter egg hunts and her cheering them on at their various school and sporting events, theatrical plays, and band performances. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Bianchi, her daughter Mary Bianchi, and her sister Carol Wyckoff. She is survived by her children Rose Bianchi of California, Edward Bianchi Jr. (Kendra) of California and Sara Valentinsen (Timothy) of Colorado. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan Valentinsen, Edward Bianchi, Amber Bianchi, and Mia Bianchi. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends and be remembered for her strength, curiosity, and guidance. She is in Heaven dancing and rejoicing to be with her husband once more. Janice's internment will be private. If desired, donations can be made to the Foodbank Pantry in Napa or any local foodbank of choice.
