James Norman Obituary

James “Jim” Norman passed away in Sacramento, CA on March 22, 2022 at the age of 74 after a battle with liver cancer.

Jim was born on February 9, 1948 in San Francisco, CA to Eleanor and James Norman. He attended grammar school at Epiphany in San Francisco, high school at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Mountain View, and graduated college in 1970 with a degree in Humanity from St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park.  Jim married Susan Madruga in 1971.  Their family grew as they welcomed three daughters, Carolyn “Carrie”, Lisa and Laura Norman.  Jim began working for the City of San Jose in late 1971 in the Parks & Recreation Department where he held various leadership positions for over 30 years.  After San Jose, Jim's lifelong career within public works led him to positions in Henderson, NV and Gilbert, AZ.

Over the years, Jim was involved with his family in both church and 4-H.  He enjoyed playing guitar and competed in several marathons.  He could tell a good story, as well as a good joke.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Carolyn “Carrie” Peterson (Robbin); his daughter Lisa Payton (Brian); his daughter Laura Hinton (Jay); his brother Terrance Stretch (Cecile); his brother Timothy Norman (Barbara); grandchildren Seth Peterson, Sarah Peterson, Nathan Payton, Victoria Payton, Isaiah Payton, Rider Payton and Amy Hinton and many nieces and nephews.

Jim’s wishes were to be cremated and honored in a private ceremony with his three daughters.
