Jim was born in Concord CA, and raised in Brentwood CA. He picked apricots in the summer
and played baseball after school. He attended Liberty Union High School in Brentwood where
he graduated in 1964.
Jim was in the United States Air Force from 1966 - 1970. Serving in Vietnam for a year in 1968

He attended California State University, East Bay receiving a Bachelors of Fine art in 1974.
During college he started working part time at Royal Graphics on Fremont street in San

working in their CAD department digitizing drawings. Both were art majors and had their first
date at the de Young museum in San Francisco viewing a King Tut exhibit. Jim quickly moved
over to the CAD department taking over plotting architectural drawings working with client

Jim married Brooke in 1977 in a hilltop chapel in Sausalito CA. The day after the wedding they
moved to Concord CA. It was there they had a son, Ryan, in 1979, and then a daughter, Alison,
in 1982. Jim continued to commute to San Francisco where he continued to do CAD work, later
with BPS reprographics. In 1998 they purchased the Napa Inn in downtown Napa where they
lived and worked until selling the Inn in 2018.
Jim loved to go camping, garden, watch sports and make things. In the early years he made
abstract paintings. In recent times he created garden sculptures and bird houses made from
found objects. He was an avid traveler and went to China in 2006, Europe and the Holy land in
2009 and 2013. He also traveled to the Mayan ruins in central America in 2011 and on an
