James Murray Boyer
December 28 1946-November, 26, 2023
James, “Jim”, Boyer passed away peacefully at the age of 76 in Kaiser hospital in Vallejo CA,
with his wife of 46 years, Brooke Boyer, by his side.
Jim was born in Concord CA, and raised in Brentwood CA. He picked apricots in the summer
and played baseball after school. He attended Liberty Union High School in Brentwood where
he graduated in 1964.
Jim was in the United States Air Force from 1966 - 1970. Serving in Vietnam for a year in 1968
and also at Travis AFB, where he was a security policeman and received honors for his tour in
Vietnam.
He attended California State University, East Bay receiving a Bachelors of Fine art in 1974.
During college he started working part time at Royal Graphics on Fremont street in San
Francisco. In 1974, while working in the blue print department, he met Brooke Barker, who was
working in their CAD department digitizing drawings. Both were art majors and had their first
date at the de Young museum in San Francisco viewing a King Tut exhibit. Jim quickly moved
over to the CAD department taking over plotting architectural drawings working with client
relations.
Jim married Brooke in 1977 in a hilltop chapel in Sausalito CA. The day after the wedding they
moved to Concord CA. It was there they had a son, Ryan, in 1979, and then a daughter, Alison,
in 1982. Jim continued to commute to San Francisco where he continued to do CAD work, later
with BPS reprographics. In 1998 they purchased the Napa Inn in downtown Napa where they
lived and worked until selling the Inn in 2018.
Jim loved to go camping, garden, watch sports and make things. In the early years he made
abstract paintings. In recent times he created garden sculptures and bird houses made from
found objects. He was an avid traveler and went to China in 2006, Europe and the Holy land in
2009 and 2013. He also traveled to the Mayan ruins in central America in 2011 and on an
African safari in 2012. By 2016 he started kidney dialysis which curtailed his travels.
Jim is survived by his wife, Brooke, his sister, Carole Celoni and brother in law Al Celoni and
brother-in-law David Kalkbrenner. Son Ryan Boyer, daughter in law Jessie Boyer, daughter
Alison Boyer Lehmann and son in law Cameron Lehmann. Grand daughters, Tessa Harrington,
Rowyn Lehmann, and Avery Boyer, Grandson’s Liam Boyer and Maddox Lehmann. He was
preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Boyer Kalkbrenner and his parents Hugh Edward Boyer
and Mary Louise Brill Boyer.
