Obituary

Harry Marshall Stover, Jr. was born on March 10, 1946, in San Diego, CA, to Harry Marshall Stover, Sr. and Virginia Snyder Stover. The family moved to Lamesa, TX, after his father's service as a dentist in the Navy.

After graduating from the Robert Louis Stevenson School in Carmel, CA, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University in 1968. After graduation he started working for Sea Land Service as a Third Mate and Merchant Marine. He was promoted to Master in 1974, ending his career as Master of the Sea Land Innovator from 1985 to 2000.

He moved to Napa in 1989, where he built a home on Atlas Peak. In 1994, he married Andrea Golly Stover. After his retirement in 2000, he worked as a self-employed marine consultant, and then for Jeppesen Marine as a marine passage planner from 2011 to 2016. From raising cattle on Atlas Peak to researching his family history and publishing a book on that history, to his interest in helping others research their ancestry, Smokey ws an interesting man. He was the registrar for the Redwood Empire Chapter of the Sons of The American Revolution, having proven a number of his own ancestors were patriots at that time.

Smokey was also involved a a volunteer with the Napa Valley Geneological Society. His relatives sent me these words from the final stanza of the West Point Alma Mater which reads, "And when our work is done, our course on earth is run, may it be said "well done," be thou now at peace." A fitting tribute to this very kind man who impacted many lives.

Capt. H. M. "Smokey" Stover is survived by his wife, Andrea; his sister, Marcia Medlock (T.P); niece, Meredith Hein (George); and nephew, John Medlock (Michelle).

Interment to be held on August 17, 2023, at Tulocay Cemetery, followed by a small celebration of life at his home at 3:00 p.m.
