Eileen "Mickey" Drake Obituary

Eileen "Mickey" Frances Drake (Clubb), born February 12, 1950, left us for her eternal home on her 75th birthday, February 12, 2025. She passed away peacefully after a long, hard-fought, recovery from a blood clot.

Mickey was born in Cheverly, Maryland to parents Walter and Eileen Clubb. She grew up in Hyattsville, Maryland, where she attended DuVal High School. In the fall of 1967, she met Kenzia Drake at Camp St. Charles in Maryland. Mickey was in nursing school at the University of Maryland when they met, and Ken was in the Marine Corps. They were married September 30, 1972. After their wedding, Mickey and Ken were stationed in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

Upon completion of his military service, Ken and Mickey moved to Napa, California, where Mickey started working at Queen of the Valley Hospital as a nurse on the Pediatrics floor. She worked nights for many years, taking only a few years off when her daughters were born. She loved caring for the children of Napa and really treated each of them as her own. This was more than just a job for her, it was a ministry. In total, Mickey worked at Queen of the Valley for 33 years before her retirement in 2015.

Mickey and Ken's two girls, Sheri and Theresa, were born at Queen of the Valley and raised in Napa, attending St. Apollinaris and Justin-Siena. Mickey was very active in the girls' childhood - being room mother, girl scout leader, organizing birthday parties, and driving them all over creation for their interests and activities. This even included a trip to Boston to see the New Kids on the Block. Mickey remained very close to her family in Maryland and took the girls to spend many summers with the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins on the East Coast.

When the girls were young, Mickey became very involved in Girl Scouts, and continued volunteering long after the girls were grown. She volunteered as the nurse at camp every summer, and later taught first aide classes to various groups.

When the girls were very young, Mickey joined a group of women who met weekly to support each other in weight loss. Her TOPS group became a second family to her. She spent countless hours working on Rallies, Recognition Days, and other events. Mickey loved putting together recognition programs and organizing the music and presentations. She faithfully attended her local TOPS weekly meetings every Thursday for over 30 years.

Camp St. Charles, where Mickey and Ken met was a camp run by the Salvatorians - an order of Catholic priests, brothers, sisters, and lay people. In 1992, Mickey and Ken made their formal commitment and were dedicated Lay Salvatorians. They have been very active in the Salvatorian community and enjoyed praising God with Salvatorians from around the world.

Mickey's family were her pride and joy. She was so proud of her two girls and their families, as well as her two bonus daughters, Regan and Christie. She would never hesitate to get on a plane to be at any of her grandkids' events - theater, sports, cheerleading, etc. She loved being a grandma. She especially enjoyed spending time at Disney with her kids and grandkids (or anyone who would go!) Recently, she became a Great grandmother and loved every minute she got to spend with baby DJ. She also loved her nieces and nephews and their children as her own. She found great joy in carefully picking out personal gifts for each grandchild for every birthday and holiday.

Mickey is survived and missed by her husband, Kenzia Drake of 52 years, their daughters Sheri (Casey) Jacobs, and Theresa Drake. She will be forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren Damian, Collin, Megan, Marisa, and Brian, great grandson Damian Jr., sister, Barbara (Dave) Fowler, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Walter and James, Ken's parents, Lee and Natalie, her nephew, Billy, and her lifelong friend JoAnn.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church in Napa, on February 27th, at 11am, with a reception to follow.
