Dr. Freeman Calvin Brackett
1940 - 2021
With love and sadness, we announce the death of Dr. Freeman Calvin Brackett, "Bob", on January 22, 2021 at the age of 80 years. Bob passed away surrounded by loved ones at the home of his daughter Kimberly Zurita, in Arvada, CO. Bob had been recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Bob was born the first of two children on April 5, 1940 in Adams, MA. to Perry Freeman Brackett and Lila Mae Phelps. Bob grew up on the family homestead tending a few farm animals and hauling and selling trees at Christmas time from the family homestead.
In high school Bob enjoyed playing football and running track. Bob graduated with honors from Pittsfield High School in 1958. He then entered the Air Force which took him to the Bermuda Islands. There on the Bermuda Islands, he met his sweetheart -wife, Yvonne Christensen. Bob and Yvonne were married in Brooks, Alberta, Canada in March of 1963. After leaving the Air Force, and moving to Napa, CA., Bob worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA. as a rigger diver for 20 years. During this time, they welcomed four children into their family.
In 1981 at the age of 41, Bob started his second career and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Upon receiving his degree, Bob and family returned home to Napa, CA. For the next 40 years, Bob would be known as "Dr. Brackett" the Chiropractor. Bob practiced in Napa, Valley for many years. After the passing of his sweetheart-wife, Yvonne, (taken by ovarian cancer), Bob married Opal Bowen and relocated to Vacaville, CA. Once again Dr. Brackett, opened-up shop in Vacaville, CA. to help and serve others in Chiropractic Care. Dr. Brackett deeply loved his family and was passionate about his practice and caring for his patients. It kept a smile on his face and it kept him going, through the ripe-old age of 80 years.
One of his favorite past-times was to travel to see his children and visit his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dr. Brackett was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Always serving with joy and love, either through chiropractic care, fixing something, or as he would say," making visits to the elderly." You are forever in our hearts, Dad, Dr. Brackett; beloved, always happy, out-going and hard working.
Dr. Brackett is survived by his sister, Mary (John) Ziemba, MA. His children, Debbie Hitchcock, IN., Sheila (Trent) Peters, AZ., Kimberly (Pedro) Zurita, CO., Rob (Jaye) Brackett, UT. He is predeceased by his mother and father.
