Dorothy “Dottie” Julia Mack, of Napa, California, passed away on June 30, 2026 at the age of 95.  She was born in Flint Michigan, graduated from Traverse City Central High School with a 95 average and was awarded a full scholarship to U of M in 1948. After college she got a job working for the Welfare Dept. in San Diego where Robert Mack, her late husband of 61years, whom she had dated in college and happened to be stationed there in the Navy, sought her out and proposed. They were married in 1956.

After moving to several different states, they found their home in Napa in 1967.  Dottie obtained a Teaching Credential at UC Davis in 1969 and taught elementary school for 22 years, delivered Meals-on-Wheels for 31 years served as a docent at Di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art for 19 years, was an avid lover of art, opera, symphony, and theater, traveled and went on numerous bicycling trips with Robert across the US and around the world.  Active with American Association of University Women (AAUW) she helped in the fight for gender equality and human rights attending rallies and protests.  She rarely stood still and enjoyed playing bridge, cooking for her soup group, participating in play reading, attending classes at Napa College and various other endeavors.

Dottie is survived by her daughter, Karin Mack (Larry Hicks); son David Mack (Cheryl); grandchildren Chase Mack (Jamie Pawlick), Racheal Smith (Jason), Daniel Mack (Kathleen Snyder); along with many dear friends who will miss her gentle heart, generous spirit, and unwavering positivity and strength.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Dottie’s life from 2:00 PM - 4:00PM Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Calligraphy Napa Valley, 4055 Solano Avenue, Napa, CA 94558.  Special thanks to the staff and crew at Calligraphy for their dedication and fine service.
