It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Leroy Donovan Jr. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the age of 81. Donald was born on April 11, 1943, in Illinois to his parents, Donald and Olga Donovan (Mayzak).
Don was a beloved brother to his sister Donna Anderson, who survives him, and a cherished sibling to his half-sister, June Schroeder, who predeceased him in 2017.
A devoted father, Don shared his life with his three daughters, Cyndee, Karen, and Julie, whom he had with Diane Gentry (Buhl). Though he experienced the heartbreaking loss of Karen and Cyndee, Julie remains a cherished part of his legacy.
Don had a remarkable 35-year career as an electrical engineer, where his creativity and ingenuity shone brightly. Beyond his professional achievements, Don was a man of boundless imagination, with a passion for building, drawing, and thinking outside the box. He poured his talents into every endeavor, creating beauty and functionality with his hands.
A man with an adventurous spirit, Don loved traveling the world with his cherished partner, Bobbi Garrop. Together, they shared unforgettable experiences and memories. Don also had a zest for life, enjoying dancing, water sports, and showcasing his treasured 1960 Volkswagen Dwarf Van during Hot August Nights in downtown Reno, Nevada. He also relished cruising in his 1923 Model T, especially during the Steampunk Festival, where his vibrant personality found a perfect outlet.
Eight years ago, Don was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which he faced with courage and unwavering faith. A devoted Catholic, Don maintained a strong relationship with God throughout his life, drawing strength and solace from his faith.
Don's love extended to his seven grandchildren: Kyle, Jessica, Cameron, Jake, Olivia, Isabelle, and Lauren, who were a constant source of pride and joy.
Don Leroy Donovan Jr. will be remembered for his boundless creativity, kind heart, and adventurous spirit. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Don's incredible life. Details will be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Parkinson's Foundation in Don's memory.
Rest in peace, Don. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
