Diane Christine Week passed away peacefully at home September 10, 2023.
Diane was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Ralph and Cathy Nelson on March 13, 1950, the eldest of five daughters. She was predeceased by her parents and sister Angela. She was the loving wife of Larry, loving mother of Kristin and Andrew, loving grandmother of Bryanna, Bella and Wyatt, loving sister of Deborah, Rebecca, and Kim, loving aunt to many wonderful nephews and nieces, loving sister-in-law to Jim, Martha and Jan, and loving lifelong friend to each and every person she ever met.
Diane’s family moved from St. Louis to California in the early fifties where her four sisters were born. They settled in Carmichael where the family grew and flourished for many years.
Diane was a devout Catholic, her belief and faith in God provided spiritual guidance throughout her life. She was a parishioner at Saint Apollinaris Church in Napa and taught Catechism class to many of Napa’s youth for over twenty-five years. She shared the Catholic faith with her family, which now provides us with comfort during these difficult times.
Diane was passionate about caring for and helping others. Devoted to giving her own children their best start in life, she was a stay at home mom until both children were attending school. She then started her teaching career as a pre-school teacher at Head Start. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts at Sonoma State University (SSU), and her teaching credential through the Hutchins School of Education. She taught first grade at Irene Snow Elementary School in Napa for sixteen years. Her greatest joy was having her granddaughter Bryanna, in her first-grade class. Diane instilled Bryanna with her love of education and she followed in her grandmothers’ footsteps, graduating from the same teaching program at SSU.
Diane was happiest when spending time with family and friends. She delighted in the success of her children and grandchildren; always their biggest cheerleader. She loved celebrating holidays with family, cooking, planning and going on vacations, (especially Hawaii), shopping, watching the Giants and 49ers, playing Mahjong and Bunco with friends, and watching the kids athletic and academic achievements.
She was a selfless care-giver, always making sure everyone’s needs were met before her own. She had a beautiful, kind, sweet demeanor and touched the lives of many. She will be missed dearly.
Diane leaves a legacy of love and strong family values that will live forever through her family and friends. We will never forget you. A true earth angel has now returned to the heaven from whence she came.
