Dennis Michael “Mike” Reis, 74, of Napa, CA, passed away surrounded by loved ones
on April 30, 2024. He had a fulfilling life as a loving husband, father, and grandfather (“Gramps”).
Mike was born on September 3, 1949, to Dick and Mina Reis in Carmel, CA. After
graduating from Overfelt High School in 1967, he joined the United States Navy and
served four years, mostly aboard the USS Constellation, with a tour in Vietnam. Mike
was always proud of his time on the “Connie,” and loved to share some of his more colorful memories!
While in the Navy, Mike's mom introduced him to Beverly Dunseth. They fell in love
almost instantly and were married in 1970. After his discharge from the Navy in 1972,
they lived in San Jose together, then moved to Morgan Hill, CA, after the birth of their
first child, Allison, in 1975. They added a second child, Jarrod, in 1978. Mike and Bev
loved their ranch in Morgan Hill, raising rabbits and sheep and various other animals,
including their horses, King and Lady.
Mike was a hard worker and determined to provide for his family. He spent many of his
early years working for Safeway in San Jose and then Morgan Hill. However, in 1986,
he decided to go to school for computer programming, earning his Associate’s Degree
in Software Programming. From then on, he worked as a mainframe programmer for
IBM and Diversified Software until his retirement.
Mike valued his family, friends, and faith most. He loved camping and road trips with
his family, along with fishing and hunting with his brothers-in-law, Tim, John, and
Rick. He also enjoyed hunting with his dogs and assisting with field trials. He was a
devout Christian and found comfort in the Church.
Mike was a passionate sports fan. His love for the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors continued
throughout his life. He had a particular love of baseball, coaching his son for 11 years as
an active member of the Morgan Hill Pony Baseball League. He also spent multiple years as
a high school and junior college coach, helping kids in a sport he deeply loved.
He was very proud that his grandchildren are 4th generation Niners fans.
Above everything else, Mike’s absolute favorite thing was spending time with his
grandkids! Whether tossing a ball around, schooling them (or being schooled) in
MarioKart, attending their numerous games & activities, or simply spending time together, Gramps was always there for them.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Mina, his father, Dick, his sister Kitty, and
his brothers-in-law, Rick and Tim. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children,
Allison (Roger) de Lorimier and Jarrod (Angela) Reis; and his grandchildren Chase, Hailey, Reese, Lucy, and Charlie, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended
family members.
A memorial service will be held on May 17, 2024, at 11 am at the Tulocay Funeral
Home, 411 Coombsville Rd, Napa, CA 94558. A reception will follow at the de Lorimier residence.
