Dennis R. Douglas, beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on December 5, 1950, in San Francisco, California, Dennis built a life filled with family, creativity, and perseverance.
Dennis was the son of the late Dallas Forster Douglas and Kathleen Warren Douglas, and was raised in Pacifica, in Pacific Manor, Vallemar and Sharp Park. He attended Vallemar School in its first year, Sharp Park School, and graduated from Oceana High School. He loved surfing, woodcarving and playing Little League baseball.
In 1988, Dennis made Napa his home, where he established his business, Douglas Interiors. Through his craftsmanship and vision, he contributed to many remarkable projects, including the complete wood interior of the Napa Valley Wine Train, the Hearst Estate at Wyntoon, and a number of fine homes, villas, castles and wineries in Northern California. His work in architectural woodwork left a lasting mark on the community he loved. Dennis also invented Square One, a clever measuring device that couples a right angle square and tape measure, and was awarded a US Patent, several US Design Patents and a Utility Patent – a remarkable achievement that reflected his lifelong spirit of curiosity and innovation.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dennis lived with joy and enthusiasm. In his youth, he was an expert skier and swimmer, and throughout his life he continued to find joy competing on the tennis court. A loyal San Francisco Giants fan, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his team.
Dennis is survived by his four children (Dennis, Christopher, Landen and Annalise), two sisters (Anne and Kathy), four grandchildren (Andrew, Kalani, Jack and Kainoa), and nephew (Alfred Saisi), who will remember him for his craftmanship, scrupulousness, creativity and ever-present sense of adventure. His cheerful spirit touched everyone he met, leaving behind countless memories of laughter and love.
Details regarding a memorial service will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
Dennis’s legacy lives on in his family, his work, and the joy he brought to the lives of so many. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
