David Olesen Obituary

David Henry Olesen, 80, of Napa, CA passed away on February 1st, 2025 surrounded by family after a battle with cancer.

David was born May 16th, 1944 in Scotia, CA, the son of Henry and Elsie (Berti) Olesen. He spent his youth playing high school basketball, helping his dad on the ranch, and making great memories with his friends. He graduated from Ferndale High School in 1962 where he met his wife of 60 years, Linda (Nunes) Olesen. After marrying Linda in 1964, David began a successful career with Bank of America, working in many branches across Northern California. The couple eventually settled in Napa, CA where they raised two children, Teri and Scott.

David had a lifelong affinity for sports, his favorite teams being the San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, and any that his kids and grandkids played on. He also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed many fishing and camping trips with friends.

David retired from Bank of America in 2000 at the age of 55. He and Linda enjoyed their retirement through frequent cruises and world travels with friends and family. David cherished time with his grandkids and was deeply involved in his community, serving as President of the Bank of America Retirees and Treasurer of Napa’s Relay for Life.

David is preceded in death by his father Henry Olesen, his mother Elsie Olesen, older sister June Hawkins, and his in-laws John and Lily Nunes.

He is survived by his amazing wife, Linda, and their two children, Teri Olesen Foster (Scott) and Scott Olesen (Mary), all of Napa. He also had three grandchildren: Kyle Foster, Sami Olesen, and Dylan Foster. His sister-in-law, Darlene (Weedie) Nunes, of Roseville, also survives him.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Kaiser Permanente and Kaiser Hospice for their help during this journey.

Services will be held on Friday, February 28th, at 11 a.m. at Tulocay Cemetery. A reception will follow.

Donations can be made to Kaiser Hospice or the Ferndale Museum, P.O. Box 431, Ferndale, California 95536.
