Constance "Connie" Wright

Constance "Connie" Wright passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 84 years old.

Born on May 26, 1941, in Oakland, California, Connie lived a vibrant and fiercely independent life. A gifted artist, she specialized in glass blowing, staining, etching, and blasting, creating intricate and imaginative pieces that reflected her unique spirit. Her creativity and innovation led her to invent the modern sun catcher, a now-beloved decorative glass art form that continues to bring light and beauty into homes around the world.

Connie never married or had children, choosing instead to dedicate her life to her art and the freedom of the open road. She made her home primarily in the Napa and Tahoe area but spent many years traveling with the summer trade fairs, sharing her glass creations and connecting with fellow artists and admirers of her work.

Later in life, she continued embracing that freedom by working exclusively as an Uber driver for the last 13 years. Connie loved driving for Uber-she was deeply social and thrived on the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and from all over the world. Her passengers often left her car with a smile, a story, or a sense that they'd just met someone truly special.

A true pioneer in every sense, Connie also made history as the first woman to swim across Lake Berryessa unassisted-a testament to her determination, strength, and adventurous spirit.

Connie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Roscoe Wright and Helen Wright (Woodward). She is survived by her sister, Nancy Lee Pridmore (Wright), along with a large loving family, a wide community of friends, fellow artists, and admirers who will forever cherish her legacy.

Her warmth, courage, and creativity touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at a date to be determined.
