Claudia Moffitt Obituary

Claudia Ann (Tallon) Moffitt died on February 2, 2025, at the age of 89. She will be remembered as a loving mother, friend to many, accomplished artist, and a generous, considerate person.

Claudia was born in 1935 in the silver mining town of Park City, Utah, to John and Elizabeth (Delaney) Tallon. All four of her grandparents were early settlers there, and for many years her maternal grandfather was mayor. Just before she was a teenager her family moved to Salt Lake City. In high school at Judge Memorial she met J. Kelly Moffitt, the love of her life. They were married for 61 years until his death in 2014.

Claudia was actively involved in the lives of her children and all five attended J.E. Cosgriff school where for several years, she taught monthly art class.

The Moffitt family relocated to beautiful Napa Valley in 1968 where Kelly worked at Basalt and they, raised their children. Once they were grown, she worked as a special education aid for 23 years. Her favorite job was at Bel Aire Elementary.

From childhood, Claudia loved art. She took many painting classes over the decades from some very talented teachers, including lessons in oil, watercolor and pastels. She sold many of her own paintings from a broad spectrum of subject matter and media. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women. Her award winning work has been exhibited in Washington D.C. and at the Napa County Fair, Calistoga County Fair, and Napa Library. She taught art classes at the Arts Council of Napa Valley.

Claudia is very social and particularly enjoyed time with family and friends. She and Kelly traveled throughout North America, Western Europe, and East Asia.

She is survived by her children Mary Moffitt of Napa, Christopher Moffitt (Jane) of Fair Oaks, and Alice Peterson (Michael) of Davis, and her granddaughters Sarah Moffitt and Anne Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Moffitt, her sons Patrick Moffitt and Michael Moffitt, and her brother Michael Tallon (Joyce).

A memorial service will be held at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church in Napa CA on March 29th at 11:00am.
