Claire (Penny) Richmond Olson

Claire (Penny) Richmond Olson passed away peacefully in her sleep due to complications from cancer on June 16, 2021, at the age of 96 years in Yountville, California. She was born on March 20, 1925, in Alma Nebraska to the late John (b.1876) and Irene Phelps (b.1879) Richmond.  In addition to her parents, she was the last of nine siblings.  

Claire was preceded in death by her husband Clifford J. Olson of 28 years until his passing in 2010. 

Loving mother of five children, Jacklin (Ralph) Dillard, William (Jayne) Wise, Ronald DeMello, Rhonda (Larry) Borgo, Ryan DeMello.  She raised her children through hard work and patience and was a loving grandmother/great grandmother to many.

Claire lived through many challenging times, to include the depression era and WWII.  Her family moved to California in the 1930’s and she attended high school in Oakland.

Claire had some odd jobs like modeling for a magazine, worked at a golf course and Vince’s Italian restaurant.  Eventually retiring from Buttercream bakery after 15 years.

Following Claire’s retirement, she and Cliff traveled in their motorhome to sites around the US. 

Our mother was a caring and understanding person, she had one of the bubbliest personalities, with a laugh all her own.  She was smart as a whip, and she would laugh at everything.  She loved people and she will be missed every day.

She will be laid to rest with her loving husband Cliff.

The burial will be private.
