Charles Picard Vincent, 69, passed away on July 14th at his Yountville California residence with his family by his side.
He was born in Austria and spent a good part of his childhood living in Europe while his father was serving in the military. His teenage years were spent in Terra Linda where after high school, he attended San Francisco State University and graduated with a B.A. is Social Service. Years later, he proudly attended UC Berkeley and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Service Administration. He obtained his Clinical License in Social Work, enjoying his purpose in helping others. He retired after 30+ years of state service.
In 2022 he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and lost his battle a year later. His journey with cancer helped him understand what he found most important in life. He wanted more than anything to spend as much time with his family as he could.
The last month of his life he was able to visit two of his favorite places, Donner Lake, and the Calistoga Spa where he and his family had vacationed for many years. Making these memories with his family were ones that brought him joy and peace during this last phase of life.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Lauren and Julie, son-in-law Jeremy Garlick, his two grandchildren Emory and Elias and ex-wife Cathy Vincent of 36 years. He adored spending time with his children and grandchildren especially during his battle with Cancer. Charles also leaves behind his cat Cecil who was an important companion that brought comfort on his toughest days.
Charles was an avid reader and maintained an eclectic collection of books that he often referred to in all moments of life. Outside his family he also enjoyed good food, sailing on his boat, fishing, and collecting fine art. He had a charismatic attitude, making simple gestures to show appreciation to others. While living in Yountville he enjoyed visiting with his neighbors who were a great support during his illness, stopping by frequently for joyful conversations.
We would like to thank everyone for the sympathy shown to our family during this challenging time. We also want to express our gratitude to his Kaiser Hospice nurse Angela for her compassionate support and excellent nursing skills. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
