Carmen Martinez Obituary

Carmen Moran de Martinez crossed over peacefully, in Napa, December 08, 2020 at the age of 91 with her adoring husband, Manuel, and family lovingly by her side.

Carmen was born on July 3rd, 1929 in DePue, Illinois to Simon Moran & Dolores Jauregui.

She married the love of her life, Manuel Martinez, January 3rd, 1953 in Mexico and wasted no time in expanding their family. They welcomed 12 children into their lives and set about teaching them how to live off of their land.

Carmen sought an expanded life full of professional growth for her children and so was the driving force behind uprooting her family from a farm life in Mexico to the United States.  But, moving a large family was no easy task.  Still, in 1973, Carmen started the long process of bringing her entire family to the land of opportunity.  They landed in Rutherford, California where they rented a small cottage for several years. After making memories in Rutherford, they moved to St Helena for some time before finally settling and purchasing their home in Napa in the 80's.

Her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren remember Carmen as an unstoppable force.  She was determined and driven until her last breath.

Carmen perfected her embroidery skills, had a knack for sewing and amorously crocheted timeless gifts for loved ones.

Walking up the drive way to Carmen's house, you were greeted with a sign that read, 'Bienvenidos a la casa de los Abuelos', a place where many would seek refuge from the day to day stresses of life. When you entered her home, you'd instantly be met with energy bursting in love and any stress you'd carry with you would instantly disappear.  Carmen manifested her love for her family by ensuring that everyone was always fed.  You could always find Carmen in her kitchen cooking traditional meals, and sitting on her stove-top at all times was a bubbling pot of fresh tea made of lemon leaves from her own garden.

Her love and light will be greatly missed but her legacy will live on in each and every one of her family members.

Carmen is survived by her Husband, Manuel Martinez, their 10 children; their respective spouses, 28 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Due to COVID restrictions, services will be held for immediate family only, December 18th, 2020 at 9 a.m.
