Anastacio "Nick" Marquez passed away on February 17, 2022 at the young age of 61 from complications due to COVID-19 despite being vaccinated and boosted.
Nick was born at St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco on April 23, 1960. The family moved to American Canyon in 1963 where he remained for 58 years. He graduated from Vintage High School in 1979.
While still in High School Nick got his first job picking up papers at the local landfill. That job turned into a 40-year career and he retired as a supervisor from Recology in 2019. After he retired, he became a part time volunteer with Rebuilding Solano.
While working for Recology in the early days, he was also served a reserve fire fighter in American Canyon for fifteen years. His Captain at the time, Keith Caldwell, wrote that "Nick was dedicated to his community, and was one of our best Reserve Firefighters and he was honored on several occasions as Firefighter of the Year. Not only did he serve American Canyon but often responded on strike teams throughout the state."
He was proud of all of his children and the adults that they have become. Nick's children were his life, they are: Theresa (Christopher Bennett), Cameron (Maddy Heisler), and Corinne. He also left behind his best friend, Susan Slater, his father, Nick Sr., his brother Robert (Kristy), his sister Maria Cleary and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who were close to his heart. He is predeceased by his mother Sharon and brother Rick.
