Alice Hill Obituary

Alice Hill passed away May 4, 2021. She had a fulfilling life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, turning 96 in December. She was born in Joplin, Missouri on December 31, 1924, to Loren and Lorraine Johnson Neihart.

Alice came to California at the age of 13, and graduated from Grass Valley High School. She moved to Napa in 1942 and went to work for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company as a telephone operator. She was eventually promoted to the business office as a Service Representative. Her boss, L. C. Brown, called her "Baby", as she was the youngest employee in the office.

Alice left the Telephone Company on February 23, 1947, to marry Joseph Hill. Together they owned and operated Apple Hill Ranch on Redwood Road for many years.

As members of the First Presbyterian Church, Alice and Joe belonged to the "Merry Macs", a young people's group. Alice was active in several organizations. She was a member of Entre Nous-Napa Women's Club for 15 years. She later became a charter member of the Emblem Club, as a wife of a Napa Elk, and enjoyed being a member for 27 years. Over 40 years ago, she was invited to join the Napa Valley Republican Women and enjoyed active membership for many years.

Alice truly loved get-togethers with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, reading, dancing, attending Civic Light Opera in San Francisco, going to Reno, trying to win "the big one", playing Dominoes, and Bocce Ball.

Alice's family thanks primary care physician, Dr. Suard, the staff at Piners Nursing Home, and Collabria/Hospice staff for the wonderful and compassionate care she received.

Alice was predeceased by her loving husband, Joe, sharing 70 years of marriage, and their first child, "Baby Hill", and one great grandchild, Marcelino. She will be deeply missed by her four children; She is survived by her two sons, Brian (Lynn), and Curtis (Janice); her daughters, Valerie and Toni; her grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Lauryn, Tiffany, Brandon, Louis, and Angelica; she was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Trinity, Teylor, Tiera, Charlotte, and Jaylene. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Evelyn Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
