Thomas Percy Obituary

1931—2018

Thomas (Tom) died on March 15, 2018 at home with his wife and family by his side from complications of Mixed Dementia. He was born August 5, 1931 to Homer B. Percy and Alma Charlotte (Paulson) Percy in Vallejo, CA. Tom graduated from Vallejo High School with the class of 1949. He joined the Air Force Reserves and served two years on active duty at Travis Air Force Base and Hamilton Air Force Base as a Control Tower Operator. He then went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard as an apprentice in the sheet metal shop, later transferring to the Design Division where he worked until his retirement in 1986.

Tom met Jo Anne, “the girl next door” and married in 1955. They moved to Napa in 1963 where they raised their five children, Richard, Lori, Kenneth and twins Suzanne and Roxanne.

Tom loved his family, enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, cars, but was the happiest just being home puttering in his garage. There was nothing he couldn’t figure out how to fix, build, cut out, or repair.

Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years, JoAnne and children Richard (Judy), Lori Hoffmann (Stephen), Kenneth (Carol) and Roxanne Comstock (Joe, deceased), six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, cousins, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Suzanne Gruening (Dave) and his parents.

The family would like to thank the staff at Nazareth Rose Garden of Napa for the excellent care and kindness the past six months and to his hospice team from Collabria Hospice for the last five weeks.

Burial will be private at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. Donations can be made to Collabria Hospice, 414 S. Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94559 or to the charity of your choice. Words of Sympathy may be sent to the family on-line at www.tulocaycemetery.org
