Maurice Floyd Holt

Maurice F. Holt, (Moe) US Navy World War II veteran, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great, great grandfather, passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 20, 2017.

Born in Stockholm, Nebraska on Feb 24, 1926, Moe was raised in the country by his mother, Josephine.

Always someone with a wonderful work ethic and a great provider, Moe dropped out of school at the age of fifteen, when his father passed so he could work to help provide for his mother and siblings. Moe was a machinist for most of his career, one that extended into his 80’s when he worked with his son-in-law, Mickey in their machine shop. He would fly from Phoenix to Napa just to work in the shop for a week or two and fly back.

When you ask someone who knows Moe, they would say that he was always there with a helping hand. He knew how to fix anything and family, friends and neighbors were grateful for his generous spirit. His time was spent working on cars, working on the house, grocery shopping and heading to Estate sales, with his wife of 54 years, Rhea.

Moe and Rhea moved from Napa to Phoenix in 1994 to enjoy their retired life together. One of his favorite things to do was barbecue with his son, Jeff and his family. They enjoyed 20 years together in Phoenix until Moe moved back to Napa in late 2013 to be near his two daughters.

Moe was a life-long Dodger fan and he and Rhea were always excited to share their story about having a drink with Vin Scully in Cincinnati early in their marriage.Moe was pre-deceased by his wife Rhea, his son Greg, siblings, Cecil, Jerry and Ethel. He is survived by daughter, Jean Edwards (Mike), daughter Janice Gourley, daughter Marianne Healer (Oscar), and son Jeff Holt (Joelle). He was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren. He was extremely proud of all of them.

A memorial service and a celebration of life reception will be held at Tulocay Mortuary in Napa on July 6, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
