Marilyn Glee Locke, devoted mother, wife, grandmother and resident of Yountville for 50 years, passed away in Napa, California on November 2nd. She was 86 years old.
Marilyn was born in Grand Marais, Minnesota to Rube and Lydia Woodward. In 1953 she married the love of her life, Donald Locke, and started raising a family of 4 children. They planted roots in Yountville in 1969 and together were active members of the Yountville Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where they both were charter members. She worked for 27 years as the Treasurer of Napa Adventist Junior Academy, known today as Napa Christian. Marilyn was recognized for writing encouraging letters to thousands of service men during the Vietnam War and was awarded by the United States Senate for her service. As a young woman she performed for radio shows, singing and playing the guitar. Marilyn and Don loved to travel and together they visited every state in the country. She loved chocolate, funny stories, country music, baking, watching General Hospital, crossword puzzles, Fenton’s ice cream, camping with family and trips to the ocean. Marilyn and Don Locke celebrated 61 years of marriage and a life well-lived with a large family who are carrying on their legacy.
Marilyn is survived by her children Serena Locke, Diana Gutierrez (Frank Gutierrez) and Jeffrey Locke (Betsey Locke), grandchildren Thomas Tuttle and Carina Tuttle-Asaro, Frankie Gutierrez and Michelle Fisher, Donald Locke II, Betsey Rose Locke and William Locke, 10 great-grandchildren Giulian, Kalem, Steven, Jacob, Thomas, Kaleb, Casey, Hailey Rose, Joseph and Joshua, 1 great-great grandchild, Lylo, and her brother, Warren Woodward. Marilyn is preceded in death by son David Locke and loving husband Donald Locke.
A Celebration of Marilyn’s life will be April 11, 2020 at Yountville Seventh-Day Adventist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her name to the Yountville Seventh-Day Adventist worthy student fund or Yountville Pathfinder Club.
